| FIBONACCI
SEQUENCE—
|
A mathematical sequence which appears with
great frequency in nature and which exhibits many remarkable
arithmetical properties.
The first and second term are both 1, and each successive term is
derived by summing the two previous terms. For example, the sequence
begins: 1, 1, 2, 3,
5, 8, 13, 21, 34…ad infinitum.
Fibonacci numbers are used to arrange florets on the heads of
sunflowers and to count generations of rabbits and bees. As one
ascends the sequence, the ratio of two consecutive Fibonacci numbers
comes ever closer to the Most Beautiful Relationship (φ), but never
arrives. |
