cannot tell the eternal Tao.
The nameless power created heaven and
earth.
The
world mother gave birth to the ten
thousand things when she gave
them each a name. The ten thousand things gave birth to their mother in
kind, naming her. Extinguish desire and know the subtlety of
the Tao.
Engage in desire and glimpse its surface.
The surface and the subtlety flow from the
same source. They differ
only in name. Darkness gives way to darkness. Beyond the
inner darkness of darkness
lies the threshold of understanding.
